Short Fuse is devoted to the short story form. Set up in 2006/7, we put on monthly events at Brighton’s Komedia Club, and have been based in Leicester since 2009.
Short Fuse hosts themed evenings where short fiction is read aloud to a live audience. Sometimes we invite well known authors to headline alongside local authors.
We’ve more recently expanded our understanding of what a short story can be, so as well as presenting the finest short fiction on offer, evenings also feature work across the arts – music, dance, film – as long as the works read, played or shown are short and strongly narrative-based.
Essays and novel extracts are also considered if they fit with the theme and work in the context of a short story, i.e. stand alone as complete works.
Short Fuse runs day-long workshops, workshop series and residential courses.
We also provide literary consultancy services – please see submissions page for contact info.
